About the series
The Alien Autopsy Scandal goes back to the 18 minutes of black-and-white footage that appeared to show officials dissecting an alien body recovered from Roswell, New Mexico. It went around the world in 1995 and became one of the most famous media hoaxes of its time.
The series explores how the footage was made and promoted, and why people believed it.
Playing Spyros Melaris
Spyros was a key figure in making the alien autopsy video. He didn’t take part in the documentary, so I lip-synced to recordings of his old interviews. I feel I got to know him a little through my research, and I’m really glad his voice got to be heard. I wish I’d met him. I feel we’d have a lot in common. Maybe one day…
The series was written and directed by the very lovely John Dower for Mindhouse. There were plenty of surprises, even for someone like me who thought he knew the story!
