People I’ve Coached

A few examples from acting classes, coaching and performance work over the years. It is not a complete list, but it gives a sense of the kind of work I enjoy doing with performers.

How I think about coaching

The aim is always practical: confidence, clarity, truthful performance and a better understanding of what the work needs from you.

A few examples

Jessica Henwick

Jessica Henwick

Screen acting, franchises and international work

I taught Jess at Redroofs in the lead-up to her television debut in Spirit Warriors. She went on to play Nymeria Sand in Game of Thrones, Jessika Pava in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Colleen Wing across Marvel’s Iron Fist, The Defenders and Luke Cage.

Her later screen work includes Underwater, Love and Monsters, On the Rocks, The Matrix Resurrections, The Gray Man, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, The Royal Hotel and Cuckoo. She has also written and directed: her short film Bus Girl was nominated for a BAFTA.

As of 2026, Jess is still building an extraordinary body of work, including Cynthia in Netflix’s Vladimir and journalist Helen Drew in season three of Apple TV’s Silo.

Performance, confidence and presence

Alisha went on to travel internationally as a performer and figure skater, including work as Tinkerbell in Disney on Ice. She wrote to me years later about how the acting classes had stayed with her.

Andy was extremely patient, and helped describe acting methods in ways other tutors could not, in order for me to really apply myself to characters and roles with ease.

Working attitude, craft and life behind the camera

James worked with me at Redroofs, including on his final-year film. What I liked about his note was that he remembered the practical side of the work as much as the performance side.

Andy was without a doubt the reason that I have the attitude to performance that I have today.

The skills that Andy teaches and that he has passed on to me have stayed with me since the very first class.

James now runs James Watts Media, working as a videographer, DP and editor for PR and people-focused video projects across the UK.
